Mike Garner has lived in New Zealand since 1988 and has gained a reputation as one of NZ's most experienced blues performers. He has performed in the UK, Italy, Germany, Australia, New Caledonia, Japan, Kathmandu and the Cook Islands. Mike is a regular performer at jazz and blues festivals in New Zealand.
Mike's latest CD, "Don't Mind The Rain", was released in February 2020.
In 2003 he appeared at the Frankston Guitar Festival in Melbourne and at the Forth Blues Festival in Tasmania; He took a 4 piece acoustic blues group to New Caledonia’s arts festival, Live en Aôut, in August 2007 which included dates in Noumea and all around the island. A cut from the 2007 “Cad’s Alley” CD, Louisiana Hurricane, won 3rd place in the 2007 International Song Competition, Nashville; in the Americana, section – the only finalist from the entire southern hemisphere!
He appeared at the Cook Islands Jazz & Blues Festival, Rarotonga, in March 2008 and at the Himalayan Blues Festival, Kathmandu, Nepal in October 2009. Mike, with Australian acoustic guitarist Nick Charles, opened the 2010 Mission Estate concert -"The Motown Event" in February. The headliners were The Four Tops, The Temptations, The MIracles, Martha and the Vandellas and Jimmy Barnes. He toured Japan in 2014 and in 2015, with harmonica player, Neil Billington. Mike and Neil appeared in the "Live Magic" festival in Tokyo, October 2016.
In 2019, Mike recorded tracks with Lee Kanehira and Shun Kikuta in Tokyo, which were featured in his 2020 release "Don't Mind The Rain". The CD was released in Japan, June 2020, by BSMF Records.
